Divers successfully located Hannah Lynch, daughter of British tech tycoon Mike Lynch, among the submerged remains of a luxury yacht on Friday evening, a reliable source said.
Hannah, 18, was the last of six people missing after the Bayesian hit a severe storm and sank early Monday. Authorities confirmed six bodies were recovered from the yacht, including tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch and his daughter; Morgan Stanley International Chairman Jonathan Bloomer and his wife Judy, a charity trustee; and Clifford Chance attorney Chris Morvillo and his wife Neda, a jewelry designer.
Earlier this week, the death of Recaldo Thomas, a Canadian chef originally from Antigua, was confirmed.
Recovery efforts were difficult due to the yacht’s depth (approximately 50 metres), narrow access points and debris surrounding the wreck.
On the day of the sinking, fifteen survivors were rescued, including Lynch’s wife, Angela Bacares, their one-year-old child, and the child’s grandparents.
Esme Lynch, Hannah’s sister, remembered her as a “little angel,” noting her compassionate, vibrant, and supportive nature, as well as her dedication to her academic and personal aspirations.
Mike Lynch, best known for founding enterprise software company Autonomy, was recently acquitted of fraud charges, marking a significant end to a long legal battle with Hewlett Packard over allegations that he inflated the value of his company in an $11.7 billion deal. HP subsequently wrote down $8.8 billion of Autonomy’s value within a year of the acquisition.
The yacht trip was reportedly to celebrate Lynch’s legal victory; also on board were his lawyer Chris Morvillo and Morgan Stanley’s Jonathan Bloomer, who testified in his defense.
Lynch was also the founder of Invoke Capital, a venture capital firm investing in European technology startups, and has been a major backer of the UK technology sector, backing major companies such as cybersecurity leader Darktrace and legal technology provider Luminance.
